Chapter 4 - The Digital Trap

Clara pulled her phone from her designer handbag with shaking fingers. The screen lit up with a notification from the board of directors, announcing an emergency vote to strip her of her executive powers and freeze all her personal assets. The corporate empire she had built over a decade was slipping through her fingers in a matter of seconds.
Marcus stepped closer, whispering triumphantly, "You played the savior, Clara, but you forgot that the board answers to me. You’re broke, fired, and stranded in the middle of nowhere."
Tariq watched the exchange closely, his sharp engineering mind piecing together the sudden shift in power. A slow, knowing smile crept onto his bruised face, breaking through the tension of the dusty courtyard.
"You think you won, Marcus," Tariq said, his voice steady and confident.
Marcus sneered, turning his gaze back to Tariq. "Enlighten me, genius. What do you possibly have left?"
"The board voted on a ghost," Tariq replied smoothly, stepping away from his mother and standing tall beside Clara. "The master keys you think you stole? They aren't on the servers, and they aren't in my head. They’re woven directly into the fabric of the bundle my mother has been carrying this entire time."
Marcus froze. Every eye in the courtyard turned to the elderly woman, who clutched the worn-out gray cloth bundle even tighter against her chest, as if sensing the sudden shift in danger.
"That's impossible," Marcus muttered, his face turning pale. "It's just an old rag."
"It's a conductive polymer matrix disguised as traditional hand-spun textile," Tariq explained, a hint of pride in his voice. "I designed it years ago, knowing snakes like you would eventually try to strip me of everything. The moment you uploaded those files to the board, you triggered a remote synchronization. Your entire corporate network is now locked down by my mother's shawl."
Before Marcus could scream an order to his enforcers, a deafening mechanical whirring echoed from the sky above. Dust kicked up in a violent storm as a massive unmarked drone hovered directly over the mudbrick dwelling, its red indicator lights painting the courtyard in an ominous glow.

Clara looked up at the drone, then back at Tariq, realizing with a jolt of terror that the game had just escalated far beyond corporate boardrooms and stolen money.
