Chapter 5 - Federal Intervention

The heavy oak doors slammed against the gilded interior walls, cutting off the panicked whispers of the wedding guests. Three men in charcoal federal suits strode into the opulent banquet hall, their leather shoes clicking sharply against the polished marble. The lead investigator, a tall, imposing man with piercing gray eyes and a sharp jawline, held up a gold shield before scanning the room.
"Agent Miller, Federal Bureau of Investigation," the man announced, his voice carrying effortlessly over the stunned silence. "We are executing a federal warrant for the arrest of Elena Moreau in connection with wire fraud, securities manipulation, and interstate conspiracy."
A collective wave of panic rippled through the crowd. Several bridesmaids near the front began to cry softly, clutching their floral bouquets as if they were shields. Eleanor gasped, clutching her pearls so tightly her knuckles turned white, while Julian stood paralyzed, the damning letter from his late father still clutched in his trembling hand.
Elena didn't flinch. Despite the federal agents closing in on her, she stood tall in her white off-the-shoulder gown, her chin tilted up with defiant arrogance. She slowly pulled her diamond earrings off, one by one, and dropped them into her small clutch with a metallic clink.
"You're making a catastrophic mistake," Elena said, her voice steady and chillingly calm as Agent Miller stopped two paces away from her. "My legal team will have this injunction overturned before midnight. You have no jurisdiction over Moreau corporate restructuring."
Agent Miller didn't argue. He signaled to the agents flanking him, who stepped forward and gently but firmly placed handcuffs around Elena’s slender wrists. The metallic click of the cuffs echoed through the silent hall like a gunshot.
"You have the right to remain silent, Ms. Moreau," Agent Miller recited mechanically, reading her rights while locking the restraints. "Anything you say can and will be used against you in a court of law."
As the agents turned her around to lead her toward the exit, Elena twisted her head back, locking her dark, venomous eyes onto Julian. Her expression wasn't one of defeat; it was a silent, terrifying promise of retribution.
"You think this is the end, Julian?" Elena hissed loudly as she was marched past the rows of empty banquet tables. "Read the rest of that letter! Read the second page! Your father didn't just investigate my family—he was a partner in the original fraud! If I'm going down, I'm dragging the entire Vance name straight into the dirt with me!"
Julian stumbled backward, tripping slightly on the hem of his tuxedo trousers before catching himself against the edge of a decorated table. A crystal champagne flute wobbled, tipped over, and shattered against the floor, spraying sparkling liquid across his polished shoes. The revelation hit him like a physical blow. The second page? His father’s letter only had one page visible, but as he looked down at the paper in his hand, he noticed the bottom edge was folded over, concealing a second sheet locked beneath a hidden flap.
"What?" Julian breathed, his voice cracking as he looked frantically at the retreating federal agents. "Wait! What did she mean by the second page?"

Agent Miller paused at the grand double doors, glancing back briefly over his shoulder. "I'd suggest you read every word of that document, Mr. Vance," the agent said grimly before escorting the handcuffed bride out of the hotel, leaving the ruined wedding in absolute, terrifying chaos.
