Chapter 13: The Apology

Tears finally broke through Victoria’s tough exterior. The dam shattered. "I looked at you that day, and I only saw what you didn't have," Victoria sobbed, burying her face in her hands. "I was so terrified of being nothing that I made sure everyone else felt like nothing. I am so sorry. For the floor, for the dress, for the way I pushed you. But mostly, I'm sorry that I was so blind."
Maya didn't offer empty platitudes. She let Victoria cry, letting the grief and guilt wash away the last remnants of the arrogant woman she used to be. "Apology accepted, Victoria. Now, get some sleep. We have a lot of work to do tomorrow."
