Chapter 10: The Observer

Arthur parked his car across the street from The Haven, watching through tinted windows. His security team had alerted him to Victoria’s presence weeks ago. He had wanted to intervene, to protect Maya, but Maya had forbidden it. Now, he watched as Victoria—the woman who had violently assaulted his daughter over a spotless tiled floor—carried heavy boxes of canned goods through the snow, her face flushed with exertion. He saw Maya hand her a cup of coffee, and he saw Victoria bow her head in genuine thanks. Arthur leaned back in his leather seat, his worldview shifting. True power wasn't the ability to destroy; it was the capacity to transform.
