Chapter 15 - The Unbroken Vow

The silence in the marina was absolute, broken only by the gentle lapping of water against the wooden pylons. On the satellite phone screen, Mark’s face drained entirely of color as his phone buzzed incessantly in his pocket, followed by the frantic shouting of reporters reading the breaking federal indictment flashing across their own devices. Across the square, two black SUVs with flashing red and blue lights suddenly screeched to a halt at the base of the cathedral steps, and federal marshals poured out, their badges gleaming in the cold morning light.
Clara watched the screen as Mark tried to push past the reporters, only to find himself surrounded by federal agents holding a signed warrant for corporate fraud, money laundering, and conspiracy.
"It’s over," Miller said softly, pocketing his radio. "The task force just secured Julian Vance’s offices downtown. They’re both in custody."
Clara lowered the phone, letting out a long, slow breath that seemed to lift a ten-year burden from her shoulders. She looked down at her hands—no longer holding bruised roses or a trap disguised as a letter, but entirely her own. She turned to Jax and Miller, offering them a small, genuine smile that reached her eyes for the first time in years.
"Thank you," Clara said simply.
"Don't thank us, kid," Jax replied, tipping the brim of her baseball cap with a grin. "You saved your own skin. We just handed you the crowbar."
Two hours later, Clara walked out onto the balcony of her father’s newly reinstated corporate office overlooking the city skyline. The morning sun was finally breaking through the heavy clouds, casting a warm, golden light across the glass and steel towers below. Her father stood beside her, his arm wrapped tightly around her shoulders, both of them watching the city wake up to a new, honest day.
She didn't wear a white satin dress, and there was no veil hiding her face from the world. She wore a simple dark blazer, her long brown hair loose over her shoulders, and her posture was straight and unyielding.

Her phone buzzed in her pocket with a final text message from an unknown encrypted number, containing only a single word that sent a thrilling, electric shiver down her spine: Free.
Clara smiled, looked out at the brilliant horizon, and finally stepped forward into her own future.
