Chapter 1 - The Broken Vow “Stop! Don’t marry her!”

Lucy screamed, her voice cutting sharply through the hushed, incense-heavy air of St. Jude’s Cathedral.

Julian spun around on the altar, his tuxedo straining against his sudden posture of absolute shock, staring down the grand central aisle at the young intruder.

“Who are you?” Julian demanded, his voice cracking slightly under the sudden weight of hundreds of staring wedding guests.

Lucy stood frozen in the middle of the aisle, clutching a faded manila envelope tightly against her light blue hoodie as her chest heaved with shallow, controlled breaths.

“I’m Lucy, Olivia’s daughter,” she said, her voice dropping to a dangerous, steady register that echoed off the vaulted stained-glass windows.

Beside Julian, Victoria gasped, her pristine white veil fluttering violently as she panicked, lunging forward to claw desperately at Julian’s black sleeve.

“Give me those!” Victoria shrieked, her face draining of all color as Julian pulled the thick white envelope from Lucy’s trembling grip, his thumb sliding underneath the frayed paper seal.

Julian pulled out a stack of banking checks, each bearing his own signature from corporate accounts long thought dormant, alongside a signature that made his blood run cold. They were written out to shell companies registered under Victoria’s maiden name, spanning the exact ten years since Olivia had mysteriously vanished from the city. Victoria’s manicured fingers dug into Julian’s forearm, her eyes wide with a desperate, trapped fury that she could no longer mask behind her bridal makeup.

“Julian, don’t look at them, it’s a sick trick by a disturbed kid,” Victoria hissed, her voice trembling as the church erupted into a chorus of frantic whispers.

Julian did not look at her; his eyes remained glued to the signature line of a check dated just three days prior, drawing a massive sum from his personal inheritance. The silence in the cathedral grew deafening, broken only by the heavy, rhythmic breathing of the young girl standing defiant in the aisle. Julian slowly raised his gaze from the damning paper, locking eyes with Victoria with a terrifying, hollow calm that signaled the absolute end of everything they had built together.

“You lied to me about her death, Victoria,” Julian whispered, his voice dangerously low as he dropped the envelope onto the polished marble altar.

Victoria stepped back, her elaborate wedding train dragging across the stone like a fallen flag, realizing that her meticulously crafted empire of lies was crumbling in real-time. But as Julian reached into his breast pocket to retrieve his phone, a sharp chime echoed from Victoria’s hidden bridal clutch, flashing a text message from an unknown number. Julian stopped cold, his eyes shifting from the glowing screen to Victoria’s petrified face as he read the incoming preview text aloud to the silent room.
