Chapter 1 - Shattered Vows And Sudden Chaos

The heavy mahogany doors of St. Jude’s Chapel swung open with a resounding throb that echoed against the vaulted stone ceilings. White floral arrangements, carefully sculpted from cascading orchids and English roses, suddenly looked like funeral wreaths under the unforgiving midday sun filtering through stained glass. Julian Vance, standing tall in his meticulously tailored black tuxedo and silk bow tie, felt the blood drain entirely from his face. Only a second earlier, he had been practicing his vows, letting the quiet hum of anticipation soothe his nerves.
Then came the scream—sharp, raw, and entirely unsuited for a high-society cathedral.
A young girl, barely nine years old, stumbled down the center aisle. Her long brown hair was tangled, her blue dress stained with grass, and her white cardigan missing a button. Cradled awkwardly in her arms was an infant, bundled tightly in a pink knit blanket. The child wailed in distressed, jagged breaths, amplifying the terror gripping the room.
"Daddy!" the girl sobbed hysterically, her voice cracking as she locked desperate eyes onto Julian.
Guests in designer gowns and bespoke suits gasped, half-rising from their velvet-cushioned pews. Whispers rippled through the rows like static electricity. Julian froze, his muscles locking up. He stared at the child, his mind spinning into a dark, incomprehensible void.
Clara Vance, formerly Clara Sterling, whirled around from the altar. Her pristine white wedding dress and intricate lace veil suddenly seemed like armor closing in around her. Her face, usually composed and serene, twisted into absolute panic. She rushed down the steps, her heels clicking frantically against the marble floor, moving to intercept the children before they reached the altar.
"Get them out of here!" Clara screamed, her voice vibrating with an urgent, desperate fury that shocked the front-row guests.
Julian’s chest heaved. He held up a hand, blocking Clara’s path. "Wait," he commanded, his voice dropping an octave, heavy with warning. "Let her speak."
Clara grabbed Julian’s arm, her manicured nails digging painfully through the fabric of his tuxedo. "Julian, it's a stunt. A sick, orchestrated attack to ruin us. Security, remove them immediately!"
The young girl ignored Clara entirely. With trembling fingers, she reached into the pocket of her blue dress and pulled out a heavy silver family crest pendant, shoving it toward Julian. Then, she held up an old, faded photograph.
Julian’s gaze dropped to the image. It showed a younger Clara holding a newborn baby, standing in a hospital room that Julian had never seen.
Julian stared at the photograph, his eyes widening in mounting horror. "You knew who they were!" he roared.

As Clara’s face crumpled into terror, the chapel doors slammed shut behind them, locking them inside with the truth.
