Chapter 10: The Foundation of Grace

While the media circus raged, Eleanor was not in Queens. Arthur had arranged for her to stay at a serene, private estate in upstate New York overlooking the Hudson River.

Surrounded by ancient oaks and quiet hills, Eleanor met with a team of philanthropists, community organizers, and ethical business leaders Arthur had assembled.

""You have total authority over these funds, Eleanor,"" Arthur said as they walked along the gravel paths of the estate. ""You could buy estates, yachts, or simply live in absolute peace for the rest of your days.""

Eleanor looked out over the river, watching a freight barge glide through the blue water. Her expression was serene, free from bitterness.

""Arthur, when David and I were young, we saw honest, hardworking men lose their homes because one bad winter closed the factories,"" Eleanor said thoughtfully. ""Money is like water. If you hoard it in a stagnant pool, it breeds rot. But if you let it flow through parched ground, things grow.""

""What do you wish to build?"" Arthur asked, a faint smile touching his lips.

""The Vance-Sterling Artisan and Trades Guild,"" Eleanor declared. ""A non-profit foundation providing full educational scholarships, housing grants, and seed funding for single mothers, working-class apprentices, and textile artisans. Let us build something that honors labor, dignity, and real families.""

Arthur nodded slowly, his respect for her deepening even further. ""Consider it done. And what of Michael?""

Eleanor closed her eyes, a mother's quiet sorrow passing over her face. ""He chose the world of gold. He must now learn what gold is worth when there is no love behind it.""
