Spring arrived in Cedar Haven with brilliant blue skies and warm coastal winds. The legal chaos in the city felt a world away from the quiet harbor town. Clara's bakery had been saved permanently, and Evelyn was formally appointed as the head of the regional archives.
One sunny afternoon, an elderly gentleman in a simple gray suit walked up the bakery porch steps. It was Mr. Harrison, Arthur Vance’s personal estate attorney—the only lawyer from the city whom Arthur had ever trusted.
""Good afternoon, Evelyn,"" Mr. Harrison said warmly, taking off his hat. ""I came to deliver something that Arthur left in my care three years ago, with strict instructions that it only be delivered to you when the Vance Foundation was finally liberated from his mother's control.""
Mr. Harrison opened a small leather briefcase and pulled out a mahogany box bound in brass. He slid a key across the table.
""Arthur knew his family was corrupt,"" Mr. Harrison explained softly. ""He quietly bought fifty percent of the original land rights to the Vance corporate headquarters under a private trust in Lily's name—land that he purchased using his own personal inheritance.""
Evelyn unlocked the box. Inside was a legal deed, along with a handwritten letter addressed to her and Lily.
