Chapter 8

The private holding room grew deathly quiet. Julian Vance stood frozen, his corporate armor completely stripped away by the cold reality of federal paperwork. He looked like a man who had spent a decade building a skyscraper on a foundation of quicksand, only to watch the first tremor swallow it whole.

"You're too late," Julian hissed, his voice dropping to a desperate whisper. "The corporate merger papers go live at midnight. Even if you have the necklace, our patent portfolio has already been integrated into global conglomerates. You can't untangle that web without crashing the entire energy sector."

"We don't need to untangle it," Noah replied, his tone chillingly level. "We just need to authenticate the master microchip. Once plugged into the Department of Energy mainframe, every license issued under your company’s name automatically reverts to the original patent holder—Arthur Vance's estate."

Amelia watched her uncle’s husband crumble, feeling a strange mixture of vindication and profound sorrow. For years, she had carried the shame of her family's supposed disgrace. She had watched her mother fade away under the stress of mounting bills and social ostracization, all while Julian and his branch of the family lived in lavish luxury built on stolen genius.

"Where is the necklace?" Julian demanded, lunging forward with a sudden burst of desperation, his hands clawing toward the leather briefcase on the table.

Before he could take two steps, the federal marshals in the doorway moved with practiced efficiency. One grabbed Julian’s arm, twisting it behind his back with a firm, practiced grip, while the other stepped between him and the table, resting a hand on the holster of his sidearm.

"Step back, sir," the marshal commanded, his voice lacking any room for argument. "You are interfering with a federal asset recovery operation."

Julian struggled against the restraint, his face flushed with rage and humiliation. "This is a setup! You'll pay for this, Amelia! You and your little hired gun!"

"Take him down to the receiving bay," Marcus instructed calmly, sliding the documents back into his briefcase. "The federal prosecutor is waiting downstairs to process the asset forfeiture."

As the guards dragged Julian out of the room, his angry shouts echoed down the concrete corridor before finally fading into silence. Amelia let out a long, shuddering breath she felt she had been holding for ten years. She turned to Noah, the anger and confusion completely gone from her eyes, replaced by a deep, unwavering trust.

"Are we really going to win this, Noah?" she asked softly.

Noah stepped close to her, wrapping his arms around her waist, pulling her close against the warmth of his chest. "We already have, my love. Now, it's time to claim what was always yours."
