The black town car came to a smooth halt in front of the wrought-iron gates of their historic brick townhouse. The warm glow of the porch light illuminated the ivy-covered brick facade, welcoming them back to a sanctuary that no longer felt fragile or temporary.
Noah stepped out first, circling the car to open Amelia’s door and offering her his hand. She stepped out onto the pavement, the cool night air refreshing against her skin. The vintage gold and diamond necklace beneath her coat collar felt like a warm ember, anchoring her to her heritage and her future simultaneously.
Inside, the house was quiet and still. Marcus Vance had already left a secure digital backup of the federal restoration files on the mahogany desk in the study, along with a brief, handwritten note congratulating them on a flawless execution.
Amelia walked into the living room, kicking off her high heels with a sigh of relief and letting her silver glitter handbag drop gently onto the sofa. She walked over to the tall bay windows that looked out over the quiet residential street, watching the faint morning light begin to streak the eastern horizon with pale shades of pink and gold.

"Thinking about everything?" he asked softly.
