Chapter 11: Reflections in the Mirror

Back in the private dressing room upstairs, the chaotic energy of the charity gala felt like something from a distant lifetime. The ballroom was emptying out as wealthy patrons filtered out toward their waiting limousines, completely unaware of the corporate earthquake that had just reshaped the energy sector beneath their feet.

Amelia stood before the full-length vanity mirror, studying her reflection. The elegant updo was slightly unraveled, stray tendrils of brown hair framing her face. The off-the-shoulder red dress caught the warm amber light of the dressing room lamps. But what drew her gaze above all was the vintage gold and diamond necklace resting against her collarbone, catching the light with a quiet, enduring brilliance.

Noah stood just behind her, his hands resting gently on her shoulders, his reflection meeting hers in the glass.

"How does it feel?" Noah asked softly, his breath brushing the shell of her ear.

"It feels surreal," Amelia admitted, her fingers lightly tracing the edge of the central diamond. "For so long, I thought our family history was a tragedy defined by failure and betrayal. I spent my whole life trying to outrun the ghost of my father's supposed disgrace."

"Your father was a visionary, Amelia," Noah said, his voice steady and reassuring. "He built a foundation strong enough to survive decades of betrayal, waiting for the day someone with the courage to reclaim it would step forward."

"And you were that someone," she turned around in his arms, wrapping her arms tightly around his neck, burying her face against the crisp white shirt beneath his tan jacket. "You carried this burden for three years without ever asking for anything in return."

"I asked for your hand in marriage, and you said yes," Noah murmured, holding her close, his arms wrapping securely around her waist. "Everything else was just accounting."

They stood together in quiet solidarity for a long moment, letting the magnitude of their victory settle into their bones. The nightmare of the past was officially over. The corporate vultures had been defeated by their own greed, and the Vance legacy had been rightfully restored to its true heir.

"We should go home," Amelia whispered finally, pulling back just enough to look into his eyes with a small, genuine smile.

"Let's go home," Noah agreed.
