Chapter 3

The heavy oak door of the estate's private study closed with a muffled thud, cutting off the lingering echoes of the grand hall. Julian walked over to the mahogany desk, pouring himself a single finger of amber scotch into a heavy crystal glass. His hands were steady, but the muscle in his jaw twitched rhythmically. Across the room, Eleanor sat comfortably in a high-backed leather armchair, a warm woolen throw draped over her frail legs. The doctor had come and gone, confirming that she had only suffered a mild shock from the fall, but the emotional toll was evident in the deep, tired lines around her eyes.
"You shouldn't have provoked her in front of the staff, Julian," Eleanor said softly, staring into the flickering flames of the stone fireplace. "Victoria holds the proxy votes for the board. If you cross her too openly, she will dismantle everything your father and I built."
Julian took a slow sip of the scotch, feeling the burn settle in his chest before he answered. "She is already dismantling it, Mom. She treats the servants like dirt, she bullies the junior partners, and today she nearly broke your hip just to prove a point about who rules the house. I am done tiptoeing around her ego."
Eleanor sighed, a sound laden with decades of compromise and regret. "We brought her into this family because we thought her business acumen would protect us. We didn't realize she intended to conquer us."
"Conquerors can be overthrown," Julian replied coldly. He walked over to the safe hidden behind a mahogany bookshelf, spinning the dial with practiced precision. He retrieved a thick manila folder filled with financial audits, private correspondence, and legal documents that he had spent the last six months quietly gathering. These papers detailed how Victoria had systematically embezzled funds from the family’s philanthropic foundation to buy up independent shares of Vance Enterprises.
"What are you planning to do with those?" Eleanor asked, her voice dropping to a cautious whisper as she recognized the Vance family crest stamped on the folder.

"I am going to strip her of every last asset she uses to terrorize this household," Julian said, his voice devoid of any hesitation. "She thinks her sparkly gowns and diamond necklaces make her untouchable. But true ownership isn't about what you wear; it's about what you control."
Eleanor watched her son with a mixture of pride and profound dread. She knew Julian possessed his father’s relentless determination, but she also knew Victoria was a cornered animal with sharp claws. The battle lines within the Vance mansion were now clearly drawn, and the collateral damage would inevitably reshape their lives forever.
