The next weekend, Henri and Hélène took the high-speed train to Lyon. They walked through their old neighborhood, now transformed into a vibrant cultural district.
With the legal restitution Henri had secured from the dismantled Laurent estate—which he refused to keep for personal luxury—he established *The Vaneau Foundation for Displaced Families*. The foundation funded legal defense, housing assistance, and vocational training for low-income residents threatened by predatory corporate developers.
They visited the cemetery on the hill overlooking the city. Before a polished granite stone bearing the name *Marc Vaneau (1958–1993)*, Henri knelt and placed a small, warm anise pastry on the stone slab, alongside a bouquet of white lilies.
"We came back, Papa," Henri whispered.
Hélène stood beside him, the cool breeze catching her silver hair. For the first time in thirty-three years, her eyes held no grief—only the serene completion of a promise kept against impossible odds.
