Chapter 6: The Unraveling Alliance

Before Elena could muster a counter-threat, the glass door behind them slid open again. A tall man in a tailored dark blue suit stepped onto the balcony. It was Arthur, Elena’s new husband, his brow furrowed with mild concern as he adjusted his cufflinks.
"Elena, darling, the photographer is looking for us to cut the cake," Arthur said, pausing as he noticed the heavy tension hanging in the cold night air. He looked from Elena’s pale, stricken face to Clara holding the legal documents. "Is everything alright out here?"
Elena’s breath hitched. For a split second, the polished illusion of her pristine marriage hung in the balance. She looked at Arthur—a man who prided himself on corporate integrity and family pedigree—knowing that if he saw the contents of the manila envelope, the honeymoon would end before it even began.
"Arthur, stay back," Elena warned, her voice tight with panic. "Clara is having some kind of breakdown. She’s fabricating stories about my father’s will to ruin our wedding night."
Arthur frowned, stepping further onto the balcony. He looked at Clara, his expression guarded but polite. "Clara, is this true? Surely this can wait until tomorrow."
"It waited six years, Arthur," Clara replied calmly, extending the papers toward him. "Your wife didn't inherit a fortune through legitimate means. She systematically forged our father's signature while he was dying, cutting me out completely and laundering the assets through shell companies that lead directly to the accounts funding this very wedding."
Arthur’s eyes darted to the papers in Clara’s hand, then to Elena, who was now trembling visibly. The golden glow of the fairy lights seemed to dim as the reality of the accusation began to sink into the groom's analytical mind. Arthur was no fool; he hadn't built his own shipping empire by ignoring red flags.
"Elena?" Arthur asked quietly, his voice dropping all warmth. "What is he talking about?"
"It's a lie!" Elena shouted, her composure finally shattering completely. Tears welled in her eyes—real, panicked tears that ruined her mascara. "She’s jealous! She’s always wanted to ruin my life!"
Julian pushed off the doorframe, walking forward to stand beside Clara. He didn't raise his voice, but his presence commanded the space effortlessly. "David Vance, Elena's personal accountant, has already transferred his digital footprint to a secure server we control. We have the bank records, the communication logs, and the forged drafts. The wedding might be real, Arthur, but the foundation it’s built on is entirely fraudulent."

Arthur stared at his bride, the shock on his face hardening into cold realization. He didn't yell or make a scene. Men of his class didn't need to shout to cause destruction. He simply stepped back, putting physical distance between himself and the woman he had married less than two hours ago.
"Get inside, Elena," Arthur said softly, his voice cutting like glass. "We are going to call your lawyer, and then we are going to call mine."
