Chapter 14: Echoes and Horizons

As the sun began to set, casting a warm golden glow over the bustling estate, the final guests drifted toward the exit, their arms full of handmade crafts and fresh flowers. The laughter slowly faded into the gentle evening hum of crickets and rustling leaves.
Clara and Julian walked slowly down the stone pathway toward the front gates, hand in hand. Leo raced ahead of them, chasing a stray firefly that flickered across the darkening grass.
The air was sweet with the scent of blooming jasmine and damp earth. It had been nearly a year since the chaotic night of the wedding—a night that began with a dropped piece of cake and ended with the exposure of a massive financial conspiracy. Looking back, Clara could hardly believe how far they had traveled from that cold marble floor.
Elena was currently serving her sentence in a federal facility two states away, learning the hard way that prestige built on fraud could never withstand the test of time. Arthur had successfully restructured his corporate holdings, completely distancing his name from the scandal. Beatrice had retreated into quiet obscurity, abandoned by the high-society circles she had spent a lifetime trying to impress.
None of them mattered anymore. Their chapter was closed, sealed permanently in the past.
Julian stopped near the stone pillars of the entrance, pulling Clara gently into his arms. He looked down into her eyes, his expression serious yet filled with quiet devotion.
"Clara," Julian began, his voice steady and low. "When I stood in the background of that ballroom a year ago, I didn't know what kind of life we were stepping into. But I knew I wanted to be part of whatever came next."
Clara’s heart skipped a beat, a familiar warmth spreading through her chest. "Julian..."
"We've rebuilt the house, restored the trust, and given this estate a new heart," Julian continued, reaching into his jacket pocket. He pulled out a small, simple velvet box, opening it to reveal a delicate silver band inlaid with a single, clear diamond. "Will you let me help you build the rest of our lives, too?"

Clara looked at the ring, then up into Julian’s kind, unwavering eyes. The memory of the past faded entirely, replaced by the bright, unclouded horizon stretching out before them.
"Yes, Julian," Clara whispered, smiling through happy tears. "Yes, a thousand times yes."
