Chapter 15: The Whole Cradle

Two years after the day in Room 412, the cedar-shingle cottage on the marsh was alive with laughter, music, and the golden light of midsummer.

A long wooden table built by Caleb was set beneath the pitch pines in the backyard, covered with a linen cloth, platters of grilled local striped bass, sweet corn, bowls of fresh garden salad, and pitchers of homemade lemonade.

Maya Chen was there, laughing with Marcus Sterling, who had traveled down from Boston for the weekend celebration.

Leo, now a thriving, energetic two-year-old with sun-bleached curls and bright hazel eyes, was running barefoot through the clover grass, chasing butterflies with pure, unfettered joy.

Laura stood near the garden gate, wearing a simple white linen dress, her hair flowing freely in the warm sea breeze.

Caleb walked up beside her, wrapping his warm, callused hand around hers, kissing her temple with quiet, unreserved devotion.

"Look at him, Laura," Caleb smiled, watching Leo laugh as Marcus helped him catch a firefly in a mason jar.

Laura leaned her head against Caleb’s shoulder, her heart full, tranquil, and unbroken.

There were no screaming voices here. There were no gilded traps, no debts of vanity, no cold judgments in the shadows.

There was only an honest home, an open sea, and a family rooted forever in the rich, unshakeable soil of love and truth.
