Chapter 1 - The Broken Silver Dome

“You had no right to humiliate him like this in front of the entire high society board, Richard!”
“I am preparing my son to inherit a dynasty, Clara, not raising a weakling who hides behind the kitchen staff!”
“He is seven years old, and your cold ambition is turning this estate into a gilded prison!”
The sharp echoes of the argument bounced off the crystal chandeliers, slicing through the tense atmosphere of the grand ballroom like shattered glass. Elena held the silver tray tighter, her knuckles turning white beneath her black maid’s uniform. Little Julian buried his face deeper into her apron, his small shoulders trembling with every suppressed sob. Across the polished marble floor, Richard Vance stood tall in his immaculate black tuxedo, his jaw clenched, refusing to look at the weeping woman holding his only child. The guests in their formal attire shifted uncomfortably, whispering behind gloved hands as the fragile illusion of elite perfection fractured completely.
Richard stepped forward, his leather shoes clicking sharply against the floor. He pointed a rigid finger at Elena.
“Take the boy out of my sight, Elena. Our arrangement explicitly forbade you from stepping onto the main floor during an assembly, let alone coddling him when he fails to meet family standards.”
Elena raised her chin, her eyes flashing with a mix of fear and fierce defiance.
“He is a child, Mr. Vance, not a stock option on your balance sheet. No amount of money can replace a mother’s warmth.”
Clara Vance rushed over from the circle of silver-gowned women, her face pale, reaching out desperately toward her son.
“Julian, please, come back to mama. We can talk about this in the study.”
Julian shrank away from Clara, clutching Elena’s skirt even tighter.
“They won’t let you rock me, mommy,” the boy whispered softly against Elena’s collarbone.
Richard’s expression hardened into stone as he heard the forbidden word escape the boy’s lips. He snapped his fingers, and two private security guards immediately stepped out from the shadows near the tall windows, blocking the exit with grim expressions.
“You are making a grave mistake, Elena,” Richard murmured coldly, his voice barely above a whisper, yet carrying a terrifying weight across the silent room. “That boy does not belong to you, and tomorrow morning, the board will review the hidden clauses in your permanent employment contract.”

Before Elena could utter a single word of defense, the heavy double doors behind her suddenly swung open on their own, revealing a stranger standing in the dark foyer holding a second, identical silver tray.
