Chapter 13 - Dawn of Accountability

The heavy oak door of Room 404 swung wide open, flooding the dark classroom with the harsh, blinding white light of police tactical flashlights.
"State Police! Nobody move!" a commanding voice echoed through the space, followed by the crisp sound of firearms being lowered as the officers assessed the chaotic scene: Superintendent Vance standing defeated in the center, Eleanor sitting broken against the chalkboard, and Maya and Leo standing side-by-side near the windows.
Arthur the janitor stepped out of the hallway, nodding respectfully to the lead investigator as Marcus limped into the room behind them, holding a cold compress against his bruised jaw. Marcus caught Leo’s eye and offered a tired, reassuring nod of solidarity.
"Superintendent Thomas Vance and Eleanor Vance, you are under arrest for corporate fraud, embezzlement, and conspiracy," the lead investigator announced, stepping forward with handcuffs glinting in the harsh light. "You have the right to remain silent..."
As the cold steel cuffs clicked around Thomas’s wrists, the superintendent didn't fight back. He didn't yell or make empty threats. He simply stared down at the floor, defeated by the digital paper trail that couldn't be bribed, threatened, or deleted.
Maya let out a long, shuddering breath, the immense weight of the past few hours finally lifting from her shoulders. She looked over at Leo, who offered a small, tentative smile—the first genuine smile she had ever seen on his face.
"We did it," Leo whispered, his voice barely audible over the hum of the police radios outside.
"No," Maya replied softly, shaking her head as she adjusted her glasses. "We just opened the door. Now it's up to everyone else to clean the house."

As the officers escorted Thomas and Eleanor out of the classroom in handcuffs, the morning sun finally began to peek over the horizon, casting a warm, golden glow through the windows and illuminating the dangling power cord of the classroom security camera, which now glowed a steady, permanent green.
