Chapter 12 - The Turning Point

Thomas advanced into the dark classroom, his shadow stretching long and menacing across the rows of empty desks. He looked less like a respected school superintendent and more like a desperate criminal cornered by his own unraveling empire.
"You kids have no idea what you've done," Thomas snarled, his voice trembling with fury. "Years of planning, millions of dollars in infrastructure development, community stability—all destroyed because you couldn't mind your own business!"
"You stole from the children you swore to protect, Mr. Vance," Leo said, stepping out from behind Maya and facing his own father without an ounce of fear in his eyes for the first time in his life. "You used my future, and everyone else's future, as a piggy bank for your offshore accounts. It's over, Dad. The state police already have everything."
Thomas raised a hand as if to strike his own son, his face contorted in rage, but before his arm could complete the arc, a bright flash of red and blue light cut through the high classroom windows from the courtyard below.
Sirens wailed in the crisp evening air, growing louder by the second as multiple state police cruisers turned into the main driveway, their emergency strobes painting the walls of Room 404 in shifting hues of crimson and azure.
Eleanor stepped backward, hitting the chalkboard with a dull thud. Her defiant posture collapsed instantly, the terrifying facade melting away into utter despair as she realized there was no escape, no board meeting to cover for them, no friendly judge to dismiss the charges.
"It's over, Thomas," Eleanor whispered, sliding down the wall until she sat on the floor, burying her face in her hands.

Thomas stood frozen in the center of the room, his raised hand slowly dropping to his side as the heavy footsteps of armed state troopers echoed up the stairs and flooded into the hallway outside the classroom door.
