Chapter 1 - The Severed Wire

The heavy plastic casing of the classroom wall camera clicked as Eleanor Vance wrenched the power cord from the socket, leaving the thick black wire to dangle and sway against the beige paint like a pendulum. Her blonde hair, secured tightly in a professional bun, didn’t shift a fraction of an inch, but the muscles in her jaw worked overtime under her dark blazer. Across the room, Leo stood frozen in his gray zip-up hoodie, his freckled face pale and his light brown hair matted with sweat.
"You think you’re clever, don't you?" Eleanor hissed, her voice vibrating with a controlled, venomous rage that cut through the empty afternoon classroom. "You think because your father sits on the school board, the rules of this institution magically bend for you?"
"I didn't touch the files, Mrs. Vance," Leo whispered, his voice trembling as he crossed his arms submissively against his chest, refusing to meet her cold, unwavering stare. "I swear on my mother's grave, I was just trying to fix the grading portal for the rest of the class."
"Liar!" Eleanor snapped, stepping forward so fast the boy flinched. "You accessed the disciplinary archive. You saw what happened to the scholarship fund, and now you think you can blackmail me into silence? Get on your knees. Right now."
Leo swallowed hard, his eyes darting toward the empty desks. "Please, Mrs. Vance. My dad will find out about this."
"Your father won't find out a damn thing until I decide he does," Eleanor whispered, her hand closing around the heavy wooden ruler resting on the podium. "You will learn respect today, Leo, or you will find out what happens when privileged little boys push adults past their breaking point."

The ruler came down with a sharp, sickening crack across the boy’s cheek, sending him stumbling sideways against a row of metal desks. A gasp echoed from the rear corner of the room, where another student sat half-hidden in the shadows, witnessing the entire assault unfold in terrifying, unbroken silence.
