Chapter 9

The entire struggle lasted less than ten seconds. The two burly security guards lay tangled on the bedroom floor, groaning in pain and completely incapacitated. The sudden silence that followed was heavy and absolute. Chloe stepped back in horror, her eyes widening in genuine panic as she realized that her hired muscle had been neutralized faster than she could blink. Her immaculate composure cracked down the middle, revealing the desperate, cornered fraudster underneath.
“You... you assaulted them!” Chloe stammered, her voice pitching slightly higher than usual as she pointed a trembling finger at Julian. “I’ll have you locked away for the rest of your natural life! You’re finished, Julian! Do you hear me? Finished!”
Julian didn't raise his voice. He straightened the lapels of his dark red shirt, breathing heavily from the exertion, and walked slowly toward Chloe until she was forced to back out onto the hallway landing. He pulled the encrypted USB flash drive from his inner jacket pocket and held it up between two fingers, letting the afternoon light catch the small piece of plastic.
“You won't have me locked away anywhere, Chloe,” Julian said, his tone dangerously calm. “Because right here on this little drive is the complete, uninterrupted digital ledger of every single cent you embezzled from my accounts, every fake contract you executed, and every audio recording of you threatening my mother while I was away. Elena was right. The police aren't just on their way—they’ve had access to the cloud backup of this drive for the last twenty minutes.”
As if on cue, the distant wail of multiple police sirens began to echo up from the street below, cutting sharply through the quiet suburban afternoon. The sound grew louder by the second, building into a wall of wailing alarms that signaled the rapid approach of law enforcement vehicles.
Chloe’s face turned the color of chalk. She looked down the long hallway toward the grand staircase, then back at Julian, calculating her odds with frantic desperation. She realized in an instant that her meticulously constructed web of lies had completely unraveled, leaving her entirely exposed with nowhere left to run.
“You think you’ve won,” Chloe whispered, her voice trembling with venomous hatred as she bared her teeth like a cornered animal. “Even if you get the house back, your business is still tied up in debt. Without my signature, your company goes into liquidation by Monday morning. You’ll be just as ruined as I am.”
Julian smiled faintly—a humorless, chilling expression that lacked any warmth at all. “My company will survive, Chloe. Because unlike you, I built it on hard work and honest partnerships, not blackmail and forgery. But you? You’re going to spend a very long time explaining your signature style to a federal judge.”

Heavy, rapid footsteps echoed up the grand staircase once again, but this time they were accompanied by authoritative shouts and the unmistakable jingle of police duty belts.
