Chapter 4

The laughter died away, leaving an eerie, hollow resonance in the expansive foyer. Julian stopped cold, his hand hovering mid-air as if he intended to point toward the heavy front doors. The color drained entirely from his face, leaving him looking ashen beneath the harsh glare of the crystal chandelier. His mind raced backward through months of legal paperwork, rushed signatures, and late-night requests for notary seals that he had signed without reading thoroughly, trusting the woman standing right in front of him.
“What did you say?” Julian asked, his voice cracking slightly despite his best efforts to maintain control.
Chloe stepped closer, invading his personal space with an aggressive confidence that she had carefully hidden beneath her polite facade until now. She reached out with a manicured finger and traced the lapel of his dark suit jacket, right over his pounding heart. Her touch was light, almost mocking.
“You heard me, darling,” Chloe murmured, her lips curling into a triumphant smirk. “Six months ago, when your company was facing that massive liquidity crisis, you needed quick capital. I offered to help restructure your assets. You were so desperate, so blinded by your own stress, that you signed over the primary ownership of this estate and your secondary bank accounts to a holding company. And do you know who the sole beneficiary of that holding company is? Me.”
Elena dropped the smartphone back into her apron pocket and stepped forward, her face twisted in disbelief. “Mr. Julian, don’t listen to her! She’s bluffing! When we were cleaning the guest suite last week, I found her filing cabinets unlocked. There are papers in there—real estate fraud, forgery, asset stripping! She planned all of this from the very beginning!”
Julian looked past Chloe to where Elena stood, then back to the woman who had shared his bed for three years. The realization hit him like a physical blow. He hadn't just been cheated on; he had been systematically dismantled, piece by piece, by someone he trusted implicitly. The dark red dress she wore suddenly looked less like a symbol of elegance and more like a stain of spilled blood.
“You thief,” Julian whispered, the word escaping him like a heavy sigh. “You calculated every single step.”
“I secured my future,” Chloe corrected smoothly, stepping back and smoothing down the front of her satin slip dress. “And now, you are the one who needs to pack a bag and leave. Security will be here in twenty minutes to escort you off the premises. As for the old woman, she goes to a state-funded nursing home. I’ve already spoken to social services.”

Martha let out a wail of absolute despair from the armchair, hearing the words loud and clear. Julian’s jaw locked. The restraint he had practiced for years snapped cleanly in two.
