Chapter 13

The heavy echoing footsteps of federal marshals filled the concrete stairwell a moment later, their badges gleaming under the emergency lights as they fanned out down the corridor with practiced efficiency. The lead marshal stepped forward, his expression entirely devoid of emotion as he readied the steel cuffs.
"Clara Hayes, you're under federal arrest for corporate sabotage, attempted data destruction, and interstate theft," the marshal stated crisply, pulling her arms behind her back with professional detachment.
Clara offered no resistance this time; she let her head hang low, her blonde hair falling forward to completely obscure her face as the cold steel clicked shut around her wrists for the second time that night. As the officers led her away toward the freight elevator, she didn't look back once, swallowed entirely by the shadows of the subterranean corridor.
Elena stood quietly beside Arthur, watching the officers escort Clara away. The heavy weight that had rested on her chest for the past twenty years finally began to lift, replaced by a strange, quiet calm. She looked down at the leather journal still resting in her hand.
"It's really over, isn't it?" Elena asked softly, turning to look at her uncle.
"The legal battle is just beginning, my dear," Arthur replied gently, placing a scarred hand on her shoulder. "But the foundation has been cleared of rot. The firm will be restructured under your father's original name, with you as the primary managing director."
"And Marcus and Julian?" Elena asked, her voice steady.

"They will face the full extent of the law," Arthur said firmly. "There are no bailouts for thieves in the Vance family anymore."
As they walked back up the concrete stairs toward the street level, the first rays of dawn began to break through the heavy clouds on the horizon, painting the towering glass skyscrapers of the city in shades of gold and amber. The storm had finally passed, leaving behind a clean slate and a world rebuilt upon the hard, unyielding truth.
