The Filtered Truth

Sarah looked at Leo, her brow furrowing. "She dropped it in the water herself?"

"She had it draped over her cocktail glass when she fell asleep on the float," Leo confirmed. "The movement slipped it right into the overflow drain. It’s sitting in the security safe right now. Ms. Sterling has already been notified."

"And did she apologize?" Sarah asked, though she already knew the answer.

Leo shook his head grimly. "She claimed the pool maintenance was inadequate and demanded a complimentary suite upgrade for the inconvenience."

Sarah took a deep breath of the humid island air. "Thank you for telling me, Leo. But it doesn't matter. We only have two days left. All I care about is giving Maya one weekend where she feels like a normal little girl, away from hospital monitors and white coats."

"May I show you something?" Leo asked gently. "Not as a hotel employee, but as someone whose little sister beat leukemia five years ago."

Sarah looked at the young man, seeing the genuine warmth and shared understanding in his eyes for the first time. "Show me what?"

Sarah felt a lump rise in her throat. "We’d love that."
