Chapter 6: The Hospital Room Revelation

The sterile white walls of St. Jude’s Hospital offered a stark contrast to the oppressive luxury of the Sterling estate. Julian arrived early the following morning, carrying a small bag containing fresh juice and personal items for Delilah. He cleared security easily, flashing his corporate identification, and entered Room 304.
Delilah was sitting up in bed, looking pale and fragile, her light brown hair tied loosely back. The monitor beside her beeped with a steady, reassuring rhythm, tracking the vitals of her unborn child. When she saw Julian enter, her eyes widened with apprehension.
“Mr. Vance,” she murmured, pulling the thin cotton blanket tighter around her shoulders. “Are you here to… to tell me I’m fired?”
“Not at all, Delilah. You aren't losing your job, because you shouldn't have been scrubbing floors in the first place given your qualifications,” Julian said gently, placing the bag on the bedside table and pulling up a chair. “How are you and the baby?”
“The doctor says the trauma was close, but the baby is holding on,” Delilah whispered, a tear slipping down her cheek as she rested a hand on her belly. “I was Victor’s executive assistant for three years. We had an arrangement… feelings got complicated. When I told him I was pregnant, he panicked and promised to provide for us. But then Clara found out.”
“And she made sure you were transferred downstairs to break your spirit and hide your presence,” Julian finished for her.
Delilah nodded slowly. “She threatened my family. She said if I didn't keep my mouth shut and work off the ‘debt’ of my supposed indiscretion, my mother’s medical care would be cut off. I had no choice, Mr. Vance. I needed the insurance, I needed the salary.”
“You have choices now, Delilah,” Julian assured her, his voice firm and supportive. “I’ve reviewed your personnel file and your financial records. Clara has been embezzling funds through your name to create a paper trail of extortion. We can use that to protect you, but I need your testimony.”
Delilah looked down at her hands, trembling slightly. “Will it put Victor in prison too?”
“Victor is complicit through his cowardice and financial negligence, but my primary focus is ensuring that neither Clara nor Victor can ever intimidate or harm you or your child again,” Julian explained. “I have secured top-tier legal representation for you, completely independent of the estate.”

Delilah looked up, meeting Julian’s steady gaze. For the first time since the assault, the profound terror in her eyes gave way to a glimmer of courage. “Okay, Mr. Vance. I’ll testify. I won't let her take my child’s future away.”
