Chapter 13: Promises Renewed
That evening, after the children were tucked into bed, Jax asked Clara to step outside to the backyard garden. The air was crisp, and the wooden birdhouse stood proudly near the fence, bathed in soft porch light.
Jax took a small velvet box from his pocket and opened it, revealing the original silver ring Clara had worn years ago—the one he had preserved in his nightstand drawer.
""Clara,"" Jax said, his voice deep with conviction. ""Five years ago, we made vows to love each other through good times and bad, in sickness and in health. We were tested in ways we never could have imagined.""
Clara looked at the ring, her breath catching in her throat.
""I don't just want to remember our past,"" Jax continued, taking her hand. ""I want to build a new future with you. As the person you were, and the strong woman you are today. Will you marry me again, Clara?""
