Chapter 10: The Ledger Revealed

The private elevator chime echoed through the penthouse with startling clarity. Helena whipped her head around toward the doors, her chest heaving as the brushed-metal panels slid open to reveal Julian Sterling stepping smoothly into the room. He wore his maintenance jacket casually over his shoulder, holding a weathered, leather-bound ledger in his right hand like a loaded weapon.
Helena staggered backward, her hand flying to clutch her pearl necklace as if it were the only thing keeping her upright. "You..." she whispered, her voice trembling with genuine terror for the first time in decades. "You’re dead. You were supposed to be gone."
"Surprise, Mother," Julian said with a cold, razor-sharp grin as he strolled across the white marble floor, tossing the heavy ledger onto the glass coffee table directly in front of her. The book landed with a heavy thud, scattering dust particles into the air. "The dead do tend to return when the crypt is left unlocked."
Helena stared at the ledger, refusing to look down at it, though her whole body trembled. "That's... that's garbage. Stolen property. Security! Security, get up here now!" She pressed the intercom button on the wall frantically, but only static answered her command.
"Don't bother," Julian said, leaning casually against the back of the sofa. "Your security team is currently occupied reading federal subpoenas served by the Department of Justice thirty minutes ago. It turns out embezzlement, corporate tax fraud, and the hostile takeover of estate assets carry quite a few federal charges these days."
Clara watched the scene unfold from behind Sebastian, feeling the immense weight of decades of tyranny begin to crumble in real-time. Helena looked older now, stripped of her corporate armor and golden shield, reduced to a desperate, cornered woman whose empire was evaporating before her eyes.
"You wouldn't," Helena hissed, looking up at Sebastian with tears of pure rage pooling in her eyes. "I gave you everything! I built this company for you! I made you wealthy, powerful, untouchable!"
"You didn't build a family, Mother. You built a corporation of inmates," Sebastian said, stepping forward until he stood towering over her. His voice was completely devoid of anger, carrying only a profound, heavy pity. "And today, the doors are finally open."

Julian pulled the handwritten envelope from his breast pocket, tossing it gently onto the table beside the ledger. "Grandfather left this for me, too. He knew what you were long before any of us did. He wanted you to have a choice, Helena. But you chose greed every single time."
Helena dropped heavily onto the white leather sofa, her face pale, her hands shaking uncontrollably as she stared at the damning evidence of her lifetime of manipulation. The queen had lost her board, her crown, and her kingdom in a single afternoon.
