Chapter 3

Julian’s unwavering stare made Victoria step back instinctively, the fabricated confidence draining from her pale face. She smoothed down her vibrant red satin blouse, her fingers trembling slightly despite her best efforts to maintain poise. Arthur puffed out his chest, attempting to reclaim his fading authority, though his stubbled jaw twitched with nervous tension.
“You have no right to interfere, Julian,” Arthur stammered, his voice lacking its previous venom. “Elena signed the separation agreements yesterday. She received her settlement. She has no place here anymore.”
Elena finally found her voice, a quiet, raspy whisper that cut through the sterile atmosphere. “I signed nothing under fair terms, Arthur. You locked me out of our accounts. You threatened my family.”
Julian’s eyes snapped back to Elena, a flash of raw protectiveness darkening his gaze. He took half a step closer to her, though he kept a respectful distance. “You were forced,” Julian stated, framing it not as a question, but as an undeniable truth he had already investigated.
“It doesn't matter what she claims,” Victoria interjected, her voice rising an octave in desperation. “The law is on our side. Arthur owns the company, the house, the future. She is nothing more than a discarded chapter.”
Julian let out a cold, humorless chuckle. “The law, Victoria, is often written by men who confuse ownership with power. And Arthur has never truly owned anything of real value in his entire life; he merely borrows what others allow him to hold.”
The words struck Arthur like a physical blow. His face flushed a dark, mottled red. “Watch yourself, Sterling. You might be a wealthy man, but you can’t dictate how I manage my personal life. Come on, Victoria. We’re leaving.”
Arthur grabbed Victoria’s arm, turning toward the golden revolving doors. But before they could take two steps, Julian raised a single hand.

“Leaving so soon?” Julian asked softly. “Before we discuss the forensic audit of Vance Logistics? Or perhaps you’d prefer to explain to the board how three million dollars in corporate assets vanished into an offshore account registered under Victoria’s maiden name?”
Arthur froze mid-stride. The color completely vanished from his face, leaving him looking sickly and aged under the lobby lights. Victoria gasped, pulling her arm free from Arthur’s grip as realization dawned. The carefully constructed trap Arthur had laid for Elena was suddenly collapsing inward, crushing him beneath the weight of his own greed.
