Chapter 6

Back at the banquet hall, the glittering reception had devolved into a chaotic mess of whispered gossip and hasty departures. Guests flooded toward the exits, eager to escape the suffocating tension and be the first to spread the news across the city's exclusive social circles. Thomas stood near the edge of the abandoned dance floor, clutching a half-empty glass of scotch, his tie loosened and his hair disheveled. The empire he had spent decades building was unraveling faster than he could track, and the phone in his pocket vibrated incessantly with urgent messages from business partners and panicked investors.
Victoria paced back and forth in front of him, her satin pink dress rustling angrily with every step. "You ruined everything, Thomas!" she hissed, abandoning her previous facade of sweet innocence. "I gave up my career, my reputation, and pinned my entire future on your ability to keep up appearances. Now the board is calling me, asking if the company funds were used to pay off that clinic in Geneva! If you go down, I go down with you, and I am not letting you drag me into ruin!" Thomas glared at her, his usual charm replaced by a venomous sneer.
"Shut up, Victoria!" Thomas snapped, slamming his glass down onto a nearby cocktail table, shattering it into jagged pieces. Several remaining waiters flinched, backing away quickly. "You knew what you were getting into. You wanted the penthouse, the cars, the status. Well, you've got them, along with a sinking ship! If you think you can abandon me now, think again. We are tied together legally, financially, and publicly. You go down, and I make sure you hit the very bottom with me." Victoria paled, the reality of her precarious position sinking in with brutal clarity.
As they argued, a tall figure in a tailored charcoal suit approached them from the shadows near the exit. It was Richard Sterling, the primary venture capitalist backing Thomas’s real estate developments. Richard’s expression was carved from granite, devoid of any warmth. "Thomas," Richard said coldly, stopping a few feet away. "Effective immediately, the board has frozen your corporate accounts pending an emergency audit. We can't have a CEO embroiled in public fraud and fabricated medical scandals representing our interests. Consider yourself suspended pending a formal review."

Thomas lunged forward instinctively, desperation overriding his judgment. "Richard, wait! You can't do that! It's a smear campaign orchestrated by Julian Vance out of personal spite! Look at the facts—" Richard held up a single hand, stopping Thomas dead in his tracks. "The only facts that matter right now are the ones hitting the financial news wires as we speak," Richard interrupted flatly. "Your credibility is gone, Thomas. Clean out your office by tomorrow morning, or we have security do it for you." With that, Richard turned on his heel and walked away, leaving Thomas standing amid the wreckage of his professional life.
Victoria stared at Thomas in absolute horror, the realization dawning that she was carrying a child for a man who was not only infertile, deceitful, and manipulative, but also completely bankrupt. The grand facade had crumbled into dust, and there was no amount of money or makeup that could ever piece it back together again. Thomas slumped into a nearby velvet chair, burying his face in his hands as the reality of his total destruction finally crushed the last remaining fragments of his arrogant soul.
