Chapter 14: Echoes of the Past

That evening, after the guests had left, Julian walked through the newly renovated corridors of the main building. The grand dining room where Emma had collapsed a year ago was now a cheerful children's library, lined with colorful books and soft cushions.
Julian paused in front of a framed plaque near the entrance. It bore the portrait of his uncle David, alongside Eleanor’s name, honoring the original creators of the life-saving medical discoveries.
Rachel walked up beside him, holding a folder of research grants. "The first batch of subsidized treatments rolls out next week, Julian. We’re going to save thousands of kids this year."
"That was the only thing that ever truly mattered," Julian said.
"You could have kept half of the fortune, you know," Rachel remarked thoughtfully. "No court would have forced you to give up your personal inheritance."
