Chapter 3

Back in the sleek, glass-walled conference room miles away, Clara stared at her laptop screen as the video feed abruptly switched from the hallway camera to the feed inside the activity room. The multiple windows on her high-resolution display blinked in rapid succession, streaming real-time audio and video from every corner of the elementary school. Her fingers danced across the mechanical keyboard, executing a series of deep-system commands that forced her proprietary software to bypass the school's local intranet. She was not just watching; she was overriding their entire administrative network from her remote terminal.

Then, the camera angle in Leo's classroom shifted slightly, capturing the exact moment Miss Gable raised the yellow plastic ruler higher than before, her expression turning menacing as Leo backed up against the American flag. Clara’s breath caught in her throat. The distance between them suddenly felt unbearable, an insurmountable chasm filled with bureaucracy, closed doors, and hostile strangers who viewed her son as nothing more than a stubborn data point to be corrected.

Clara’s eyes locked onto the screen, focusing entirely on the terrified expression of her five-year-old boy. A strange, metallic warmth began to pool behind her eyelids, a sudden physical sensation unlike anything she had ever experienced in her professional life. The ambient light in the quiet conference room seemed to dim, casting long, dramatic shadows across the polished walnut table as the air pressure around her dropped noticeably.

"Stop!" Clara screamed aloud in the empty room, her voice carrying an unnatural, resonant frequency that rattled the glass water pitcher on the table. "Get away from my son!"

As the words left her lips, her eyes flashed with a brilliant, supernatural glowing intensity, casting a harsh crimson hue across the glowing laptop screen. The multiple video feeds on her monitor flickered violently, the digital static turning into a solid wall of red light as her intense emotional fury interfaced directly with the hardware through sheer, unexplained willpower. The security system in the school began to malfunction instantly, power surges blowing out hallway lights and causing emergency exit signs to hum with dangerous electrical current.

In the distant classroom, Miss Gable stopped mid-sentence, her hand freezing as the yellow ruler hovered in the air. The fluorescent lights overhead flickered once, twice, and then plunged the room into a deep, buzzing darkness before emergency battery packs kicked in with a dull amber glow.

Clara leaned closer to the monitor, her glowing red eyes reflecting in the polished glass of the screen as she watched the teacher spin around in absolute confusion. The maternal protective instinct had transcended digital boundaries, turning her remote workstation into a command center of pure, unadulterated vengeance.

She reached for her smartphone lying beside the keyboard, her fingers glowing with residual heat as she gripped the sleek metal casing. The screen was already dialing an encrypted emergency number that connected directly to the district superintendent's private mobile line.
