Chapter 1: The Shattered Reflection

The pristine white walls of the grand hallway felt suffocating under the brilliant glare of the crystal chandeliers. Clara stood over the broken ornate wall mirror, her blonde hair tightly pulled into a bun that refused to soften her furious expression. She looked down at the fragments of glass, then glared directly at the young woman crumpled against the baseboard.

Clara took a sharp, calculated step forward, her plunging red satin slit dress swaying with a dangerous elegance. She pointed a manicured finger downward, her voice cutting through the thick silence like a razor blade.

"Get out of my sight!" Clara shouted, her chest heaving beneath the heavy fabric as natural rage painted her features.

On the floor, Sarah clutched her rounded belly, her blue maid uniform stained with dust from the fractured drywall. Tears streamed down her cheeks, but she made no move to rise.

"Please, leave me alone," Sarah sobbed, her voice trembling with an exhaustion that went deeper than physical pain.

Before Clara could lunge closer, Julian stepped firmly into the space between them. His black suit jacket pulled tight across his broad shoulders, framing the dark ink of tattoos creeping up his neck from beneath his open-collared white shirt. Julian did not raise his voice, but his presence dominated the hallway instantly. He grabbed Clara’s bare arm in a grip that was entirely unyielding.

Clara stopped dead, her eyes widening in profound disbelief as she stared at the man she had called her own for five years. Her mouth parted slightly, breath catching in her throat.

"Don’t touch her again," Julian warned, his tone flat, cold, and heavy with a terrifying finality.

Clara stared at him, her voice cracking as the reality of his betrayal settled heavily over her mind.

"You’re protecting her?" Clara whispered, the words tasting like ash.

Julian ignored her entirely, kneeling beside the weeping maid. He placed a steady, comforting hand upon Sarah’s trembling shoulder, offering a silent reassurance that spoke volumes about an intimacy Clara had never suspected. Looking back up at Clara with a gaze devoid of warmth, Julian delivered a final, chilling decree.

"Leave before I make you."

Clara’s breath hitched. She looked from Julian’s resolute eyes down to Sarah’s protective grip on her abdomen. A cold dread pooled in her stomach as she realized the shattered glass on the floor was only the beginning of everything falling apart.
