Chapter 8: An Unexpected Visitor

""Mr. Vance,"" Mrs. Gable said, her voice carrying an unmistakable note of urgency. ""You have a visitor in the private parlor. Someone insisting on speaking with you immediately.""

Julian frowned, rising from his desk. ""Who is it, Mrs. Gable? The press is barred at the gates.""

""It is not the press, sir,"" the head housekeeper replied grimly. ""It is Arthur Sterling’s junior partner, bringing an emergency courier package. But that is not all. Clara has managed to bypass the security perimeter through the service road, and she is demanding to see you right now.""

Julian’s expression hardened instantly. ""Escort Clara to the drawing room and lock all connecting doors. I will not have her staging another theatrical outburst in my home.""

""I already secured the perimeter guards, sir, but she forced her way past the east gate before security could react,"" Mrs. Gable explained. ""She is in the main foyer right now, and she is not alone. She brought cameras.""

Before Julian could react, the sharp sound of high heels clicking furiously against the marble floor echoed down the hallway. Seconds later, the library doors flew open, and Clara burst into the room. Her dark hair was disheveled, her expensive designer coat clutched tightly around her, and her eyes burned with a manic, desperate fury. Behind her, a freelance videographer hoisted a professional camera onto his shoulder, rolling footage of the private study before security guards could rush in and tackle him.

""Julian! You ruthless bastard!"" Clara shrieked, pointing an accusing finger directly at him as the camera captured every second. ""You’re destroying me over a spilled drop of water and a petty administrative discrepancy! You set me up!""

Julian did not flinch. He stepped out from behind his desk, his towering presence instantly neutralizing the frantic energy in the room. Two burly security guards grabbed the videographer by the shoulders, wrenching the camera down and forcing him backward out the door, while Mrs. Gable quickly slammed the heavy panels shut.

""Get out of my house, Clara,"" Julian said, his voice terrifyingly calm, cutting through her hysterical rant like a razor blade. ""You committed financial fraud, and now you have brought tabloid cameras onto private property in a pathetic attempt at public manipulation. You are only digging your grave deeper.""

Clara laughed wildly, tears of rage finally spilling down her cheeks. ""You think you’re so righteous, Julian! But everyone in this city knows how the Vance fortune was really built! Ask your dear father—oh wait, you can't, he took his secrets to the grave!""

Elena stood quietly by the corner of the desk, watching the confrontation unfold. She noticed the subtle micro-expression that crossed Julian’s face—a momentary flash of genuine shock and suppressed pain before his iron mask locked back into place.
