Chapter 6 - The Cellblock Hierarchy

The iron door of Cell 402 slid shut with a heavy, metallic clang that vibrated through the concrete floor. Vanessa stood in the center of the cramped, windowless cell, trembling as she looked at the two narrow steel bunk beds and the rusted stainless-steel toilet sink combination in the corner. Her cellmate was already sitting cross-legged on the bottom bunk—a formidable woman with deep tribal scars along her jawline and cold, calculating eyes that studied Vanessa like a predator evaluating an injured fawn.

"So, you're the billionaire’s brat who thought she could buy her way out of vehicular manslaughter," the cellmate said, her voice deep and steady, devoid of any warmth.

Vanessa forced her chin up, trying desperately to project an aura of unbothered superiority despite her racing pulse. "I advise you not to speak to me that way. My release papers are already being drafted by my father’s legal team, and I will be out of this hellhole by the end of the week."

The cellmate let out a sharp, cynical bark of laughter that sounded more like a warning shot. She stood up slowly, towering over Vanessa with an imposing physical presence.

"Listen closely, little princess," the cellmate whispered, stepping uncomfortably close. "In Ravenwood, your daddy’s money doesn't buy you protection. It buys you a bullseye. Half the women in this cellblock lost their homes, their savings, or their children because of corporate掠夺 led by men like Arthur Vance. You represent every single nightmare that put them here."

Before Vanessa could formulate a scathing reply, the cellblock alarm blared with a shrill, piercing shriek. The heavy steel doors automatically clicked unlocked for the evening chow hall march.

The cellmate grabbed Vanessa roughly by the collar of her fresh orange jumpsuit and dragged her out into the crowded, echoing corridor. Hundreds of inmates in identical orange uniforms swarmed the central walkway like a restless sea of uniform misery. The air was thick with the scent of cheap institutional food, sweat, and simmering hostility.

As they entered the cavernous cafeteria, the ambient noise instantly dropped to a low, menacing murmur. Dozens of hardened eyes locked onto Vanessa as she walked down the center aisle carrying her gray plastic tray. Whispers rippled through the tables.

Suddenly, a massive inmate carrying a heavy tray of boiling-hot institutional soup stepped directly into Vanessa's path, blocking the aisle with a malicious grin.

"Watch where you're walking, princess," the inmate sneered, intentionally tipping the heavy ceramic bowl forward so that a scalding wave of thick tomato soup splashed directly across the front of Vanessa’s uniform and onto her bare hands.

Vanessa screamed in pain and shock, dropping her tray to the floor with a loud clatter. But instead of showing sympathy, the entire cafeteria erupted into a deafening chorus of mocking laughter, and the inmate who spilled the soup leaned down, whispering a chilling threat directly into her ear.
