Chapter 11 - The Boardroom Battlefield

The morning sun broke through the towering glass windows of the Mendoza Holdings executive boardroom, casting long, geometric shadows across the polished mahogany conference table. The room was packed to capacity. Board members, legal counsel, and financial analysts sat in tense silence, their eyes darting nervously between Richard Vance—who sat near the head of the table with a scowl carved into his face—and the empty leather chair reserved for the CEO.
Julian stood quietly near the back corner of the room, dressed impeccably in his grey suit, serving as a silent pillar of support. Clara sat to the right of the empty chair, her laptop open, displaying real-time financial ledgers. And at the head of the table, sitting with absolute, unyielding poise in the maroon dress she had worn the night before, was Valeria.
Richard slammed his palm down onto the polished wood, shattering the quiet murmurs of the room.
“This is an absolute farce!” Richard barked, standing up to address the board. “Arthur Mendoza is lying unconscious in an intensive care unit, clinging to life. Passing executive control to an estranged daughter with zero corporate experience is a violation of fiduciary duty. We are looking at a hostile takeover by default if we allow this amateur hour to continue!”
Valeria didn't flinch. She clasped her hands neatly in front of her, leaning forward with the exact posture her father used whenever he was about to crush an opponent.
“Sit down, Richard,” Valeria said, her voice calm, measured, and effortlessly authoritative. “You’ve spent the last six months conspiring to gut this company from the inside out, assuming my father wouldn't notice. But my father always notices.”
Richard sneered, leaning heavily against the back of his chair. “You have no proof, little girl. Just a piece of paper signed by a fading old man who probably didn't even know what he was signing.”
“Is that so?” a quiet, raspy voice echoed from the doorway.
The entire boardroom froze. Every head snapped toward the entrance as the heavy oak doors slowly pushed open. There, standing with the assistance of a metal walker and flanked by two nurses, was Arthur Mendoza. He was pale, dressed in a loose-fitting button-down shirt instead of his usual tailored suit, but his steel-gray eyes burned with an intensity that could melt titanium.
Gasps echoed around the table. Richard turned white as a sheet, his jaw dropping in sheer disbelief.
Arthur walked slowly toward the head of the table, his footsteps heavy and deliberate. Valeria immediately stood up, rushing over to help him take the main seat. Arthur offered her a brief, proud nod before turning his piercing gaze directly onto Richard Vance.
“You always were impatient, Richard,” Arthur said, his voice raspy but steady enough to command the entire room. “You mistook my absence for weakness. You mistook my daughter’s grief for ignorance.”
Richard swallowed hard, desperately trying to recover his composure. “Arthur... you should be in the hospital. The board is just trying to protect—”
“The board is going to listen to a termination notice,” Arthur interrupted, raising a single finger. He looked over at Clara, who instantly tapped a key on her laptop.

Projected onto the massive screen at the front of the boardroom was a detailed forensic audit report, exposing every illegal share transfer, offshore account manipulation, and conspiracy orchestrated by Richard Vance over the past three years.
