Chapter 7 - The Interception

The cold metal of the suppressed firearm pressed firmly against the back of Julian’s neck, but the man in the navy blue suit did not flinch. His jaw tightened slightly, a single muscle ticking along his jawline, but his posture remained rigid and composed. He slowly lifted his hands away from the leather briefcase, resting them palms-up on his knees.

“You’re trespassing, Miller,” Julian said, his voice chillingly calm, showing no trace of panic. “And you’re vastly underestimating the security protocols active on this vehicle.”

The man in the front passenger seat let out a dry, humorless laugh. He turned his head slightly, revealing a jagged scar running from his ear down to his collarbone in the dim dashboard light. This was Miller, a ghost from Julian’s shadowy past before the corporate boardrooms and high-society galas consumed his life.

“Security protocols?” Miller mocked softly. “Julian, my friend, you’ve gone soft playing house with debutantes and housekeepers. You really thought you could slip out of the country with the most sensitive asset in the intelligence grid without tripping every alarm we planted?”

Marisa huddled in the back seat, pulling sleeping Valentina deeper into the shadows of the leather interior. Her heart hammered against her ribs like a trapped bird. She had spent years believing Julian was nothing more than a ruthless, cold-blooded businessman who inherited a shipping empire. But this—men with guns, shadowy syndicates, classified dossiers—revealed a horrifying truth. Valentina wasn’t just a secret child from a scandalous affair; she was a target in a war Marisa couldn’t begin to comprehend.

“Leave the child out of this,” Marisa pleaded, her voice trembling as she pressed a protective hand over Valentina’s ears. “She’s only six years old. She doesn't know anything.”

Miller glanced back over his shoulder, his cold eyes lingering on the sleeping little girl before shifting back to Julian. “That’s where you’re wrong, housekeeper. That little girl holds the encryption keys to a ledger worth billions. And more importantly, she knows the location of her biological mother—the woman your precious Julian here supposedly buried five years ago.”

Julian’s eyes flashed with a sudden, violent fury that he quickly suppressed. “The mother is dead, Miller. You know that as well as I do.”

“Is she?” Miller smiled, tapping a thin envelope against the dashboard. “We just intercepted a transmission from a secure server in Geneva. Someone alive and breathing just accessed the primary vault. And they’re waiting for Valentina at our final destination.”

Before Julian could process the revelation, the driver slammed his foot on the accelerator, throwing the car forward into the night, while Miller ripped the leather briefcase from the seat, breaking the brass clasp and spilling classified documents all over the floor.
