Chapter 11 - The Geneva Ghost

The red warning text pulsed rhythmically on the laptop screen, casting a demonic glow across Julian’s composed face. The jet leveled out after a violent turbulence wave, but the atmosphere inside the cabin had shifted from tense to lethal.
Miller slammed his hand against the mahogany partition, his scarred face twisted in frustration. “That’s impossible! Our flight path was scrambled through three different proxy servers. Nobody outside this cabin should know our destination coordinates!”
Julian slowly closed the laptop lid, cutting off the pulsing red light. He didn't look surprised. He looked like a man who had anticipated this exact betrayal from the very beginning.
“You assume our communications were secure, Miller,” Julian said smoothly, standing up and buttoning his suit jacket. “You’ve been leaking our telemetry data to Clara’s father since we crossed the state line. Did you really think I wouldn't notice the encrypted ping routing through the Sterling corporate firewall?”
Miller’s hand twitched toward his holster, his eyes narrowing to dangerous slits. “You’re bluffing, Julian.”
“Am I?” Julian pressed a small silver button on his lapel. Instantly, the cockpit door unlocked and swung open, revealing the pilot—not the man who had boarded with them at the airfield, but a federal agent wearing tactical gear, holding a service weapon aimed squarely at Miller’s chest.
“Drop the weapon, Miller,” the federal agent commanded, his voice cold and authoritative. “Federal custody. Hands where I can see them.”
Miller froze, glaring at Julian with pure venom. Slowly, deliberately, he raised his empty hands, but a sinister grin spread across his scarred lips. “You think you’ve won, Julian? You think putting me in cuffs stops what’s waiting for you in Geneva? The woman sitting in that safehouse isn’t just waiting for the child. She’s waiting to finish what she started the night she walked out on you.”
Marisa clutched sleeping Valentina closer, her heart pounding frantically against her ribs. She looked at Julian, her voice trembling as she finally voiced the question that had been tearing her apart since they left the mansion.
“Who is she, Mr. Sterling? If Clara isn't Valentina’s mother... then who is?”
Julian didn't answer immediately. He walked over to the leather couch where the little girl was resting, kneeling down to gently brush a stray lock of hair from her forehead. His expression softened for a fraction of a second, revealing a profound, agonizing sorrow beneath the cold exterior.
“Her name is Elena,” Julian whispered, more to himself than to Marisa. “And she was the best operative our agency ever produced—until the day she had to fake her own execution to keep Valentina safe from the syndicate.”
Before Marisa could process the staggering revelation, the jet’s intercom crackled to life, broadcasting a frantic, digitized voice straight from the flight deck.
“Control to Agent Sterling! We have an unauthorized aircraft intercepting our vector! They’re broadcasting military-grade jamming frequencies—we are losing all navigational controls!”

Julian stood up abruptly, his eyes locking onto the cockpit door as the cabin violently shook once more, plunging downward into a steep, terrifying descent.
