CHAPTER 7: The Boardroom Ambush

The following Monday, the boardroom on the 50th floor of the Sterling Tower was packed with twenty-four seasoned executives in custom pinstripe suits.
At the head of the long obsidian conference table sat Howard Vance—no relation to Clara, but Julian’s long-time chief financial officer, a man known for his icy demeanor and ruthless cost-cutting.
When the boardroom doors opened, Arthur walked in, accompanied by nine-year-old Clara. She wore a neat navy-blue cardigan over a simple collared shirt.
“Arthur, this is absurd,” Howard said, not even looking up from his quarterly financial reports. “A child cannot preside over a Fortune 100 conglomerate. We are currently preparing a motion for court-appointed conservatorship to handle daily operations.”
Clara didn't hesitate. She walked directly to the empty chairman’s leather seat at the head of the table, pulled the heavy chair out, and sat down.
She pulled out Julian’s private journal and placed it next to a stack of newly audited bank ledgers.
“Mr. Howard,” Clara said, her voice clear and level across the quiet room. “On page 42 of the internal audit, five million dollars was transferred last month from the Sterling Children’s Medical Center fund into an offshore shell company in the Cayman Islands registered under your initials.”
Howard froze. The color drained from his face as the other executives turned their heads in shock.

“My father’s will grants me complete veto power through Mr. Pendelton,” Clara continued calmly. “You are dismissed. And the medical center’s budget is restored as of today.”
