Chapter 6

Victoria Vance did not return directly to her home. Instead, she slid into the driver’s seat of her own obsidian-black sedan parked on the street level above the garage. The leather interior was cool and smelled faintly of cedar and leather conditioner. She placed the heavy black folder carefully on the passenger seat, then opened her leather-bound planner to check her schedule. Next to her on the console rested the heavy brass key Arthur had handed her.

With a smooth, practiced motion, Victoria inserted the key into the small lock compartment beneath her dashboard, releasing a hidden panel that housed a secure corporate laptop. She booted the machine up, bypassing three layers of biometric security before the interface illuminated the dark interior of the car with a soft, pale blue glow.

The screen immediately displayed a real-time data feed from the Sterling Corporation’s central accounting servers. Green lines of code cascaded down the monitor, alongside a live tracking window linked to the municipal storage facility on 4th Street. Victoria watched as three unmarked federal vehicles pulled up to the storage facility's metal roll-up doors, perfectly synchronizing with her timeline. She did not need to be physically present to witness the raid; her digital oversight gave her a God-like perspective over the destruction of her husband’s empire.

Her phone buzzed against the center console. The caller ID displayed the name of her lead corporate attorney, Harrison Cole. Victoria pressed the speaker button, her voice remaining calm, measured, and entirely professional.

"Report, Harrison," Victoria commanded, her eyes never leaving the data streams flowing across her laptop screen.

"We’ve secured the municipal storage unit, Victoria," Harrison’s voice came through the car’s audio system, crisp and efficient. "The authorities recovered twelve duffel bags filled with untraced bearer bonds, duplicate corporate seals, and several hard drives containing the encrypted ledgers for the shell companies Marcus and Chloe established. It’s an open-and-shut case of grand larceny and corporate espionage."

Victoria offered a faint, fleeting smile that didn't reach her eyes. "Ensure the inventory logs are filed with the federal prosecutor before the close of business today. I want no loopholes, Harrison. Not a single asset should remain unaccountable."

"Understood," Harrison replied. "What about Marcus? Word is he’s wandering the downtown district on foot. His corporate cards have all been successfully frozen."

"Let him walk," Victoria said coldly. "The pavement will teach him humility far better than any courtroom ever could."

She ended the call with a light tap on the touchscreen, cutting the audio instantly. She looked down at the brass key resting beside the console. It was no longer just a piece of metal; it was the final nail in the coffin of her marriage. For eight years, she had played the dutiful, quiet wife while Marcus built a double life behind her back. But Victoria had never been a victim; she had merely been gathering data, waiting for the precise statistical moment when her leverage would yield maximum impact. She closed the laptop, secured the hidden panel, and put the car into drive, her mind already shifting to the next phase of her corporate consolidation.
