Chapter 4

Marcus slid slowly down the side of the sedan until he was crouched on the gritty concrete, his muscular frame suddenly looking remarkably small and defeated. His dark grey button-down shirt was torn at the shoulder where Victoria had yanked him, exposing the raw vulnerability beneath his aggressive exterior. He stared blankly at the shattered compact mirror crushed beneath Victoria's heel, watching his own distorted reflection splinter into a dozen meaningless fragments.

Arthur stood motionless, the heavy brass key still gripped tightly in his right hand. The authoritarian posture that had defined him moments before seemed to sag under the sudden weight of realization. He looked at Chloe, who had collapsed against the passenger door of the car, her beige strapless dress stained with dust from the garage floor. The sight of her profound defeat did not soften Arthur; instead, it hardened his resolve into something cold and permanent.

"You are finished," Arthur said, his voice terrifyingly calm as he addressed both of them. He did not look at Marcus, reserving his final judgment for his own flesh and blood. "Every asset, every trust fund, every share you hold in the Sterling Corporation is frozen as of this exact hour. I will not have my family name dragged through federal courtrooms because of your greed."

Chloe sobbed openly now, her hands covering her face as her long blonde hair tangled around her wrists. The fierce, venomous woman who had hissed threats just minutes earlier had vanished, leaving only a terrified girl facing the consequences of her own ambition. She reached out, her fingers catching the hem of Arthur’s tailored dark trousers, but he stepped back deliberately, breaking the physical connection without a hint of hesitation.

Victoria watched the domestic drama unfold with the detached curiosity of a scientist observing a chemical reaction. She adjusted the black folder beneath her arm, ensuring the documents were secure. "The legal separation papers will be served to your holding address by morning, Marcus," Victoria said, her tone devoid of malice, carrying only the weight of absolute finality. "Do not attempt to contact my legal team, and do not approach our residence. The locks were changed at noon."

Marcus looked up slowly, his eyes burning with a mixture of impotent rage and sheer terror. He knew that Victoria was not bluffing. Every threat she issued was backed by meticulous planning and ironclad evidence. He had underestimated her intellect, viewing her merely as an obstacle to be bypassed rather than a formidable force of nature.

Arthur turned away from his daughter, walking over to where Victoria stood near the concrete pillar. He extended his hand, dropping the heavy brass key into her open palm with a soft, metallic clink. "Take it," Arthur said quietly, his voice carrying a bitter undertone of betrayal. "Use it to finish whatever needs to be done. I want them both erased from every ledger we control."

Victoria closed her fingers around the key, feeling its sharp edges bite slightly into her skin. "It will be handled, Arthur," she replied softly. Without another word, she turned on her heel, her dark grey blazer swaying slightly with her measured stride as she walked toward the exit of the underground garage, leaving the wreckage of their lives behind her in the shadows.
