Chapter 9: The Heir's Awakening

The next morning, the sun rose over the Kingston estate, bathing the stone courtyards in brilliant golden light. Alex stood before the full-length mirror in his dressing room, buttoning up a sharp charcoal-gray suit with a silver silk tie. He looked at his reflection and saw a stranger staring back—gone was the carefree, easily manipulated youth, replaced by a man with sharp eyes and a resolute jawline.

He walked down the grand staircase into the foyer, where Julian was waiting with a leather briefcase and a digital tablet.

"Your grandmother is already in the primary conference room," Julian reported, handing over the tablet. "The quarterly logistics review is scheduled for nine o'clock. She expects you to present the Asian market expansion strategy."

Alex took the tablet, scrolling through the dense financial data with practiced ease. "I've updated the projections based on the new shipping routes. We are cutting ties with Vance Logistics immediately and re-routing through our proprietary Pacific terminals."

Julian raised an eyebrow in quiet approval. "A wise decision. Vance Logistics has been under federal scrutiny for months. Cutting them off now protects our compliance rating."

"I am done making decisions based on sentiment, Julian," Alex said firmly, walking toward the conference room doors. "Grandmother taught me that the hard way."

As they entered the conference room, Eleanor looked up from her documents. She wore a sharp navy blue vest over her white collared shirt, her silver hair immaculate, and her gold hoop earrings catching the overhead light. She studied Alex for a long moment, noting the change in his posture, the steady gaze, and the absence of hesitation in his movements.

A rare, faint smile touched the corner of Eleanor’s lips. She inclined her head slightly in acknowledgment.

"Take your seat, Alex," Eleanor said smoothly. "Show me how an heir to the Kingston empire conducts business."
