Chapter 5: Whispers in the Boardroom

The executive boardroom on the top floor of the Kingston Tower was a masterpiece of modern architecture, featuring floor-to-ceiling glass walls that overlooked the sprawling skyline of the city. Yet, inside the room, the atmosphere was suffocatingly tense. Twelve senior executives sat around the massive granite conference table, whispering anxiously among themselves.
The heavy double doors opened, and Eleanor entered. She walked with a measured, deliberate stride, her cane clicking softly against the marble floor. Julian followed half a step behind, carrying her briefing materials. Despite the recent trauma and her healing leg, Eleanor exuded an aura of absolute command that instantly silenced the restless room.
She took her seat at the head of the table, leaning forward slightly and resting her hands on the polished granite.
"Good afternoon, everyone," Eleanor began, her voice steady and resonant. "I am aware of the rumors circulating regarding the recent security incident at the estate. Let me put those rumors to rest right now."
A senior vice president cleared his throat nervously. "Eleanor, the press is already asking questions about the police presence at the property. If the market loses confidence—"
"The market will lose nothing," Eleanor interrupted, her gaze fixing on him with piercing intensity. "An internal threat was identified, neutralized, and handed over to federal authorities within twelve hours. Operations continue as scheduled. Our quarterly projections remain unaffected."
"And the suspect?" another director asked cautiously.
"She is where she belongs," Eleanor replied coldly. "Her access credentials have been revoked permanently, and her legal representation is discovering the true cost of industrial espionage against this family."
The silence in the boardroom was absolute. No one dared question her further. Eleanor opened her leather folder and began detailing the upcoming international expansion into renewable energy markets. She spoke with razor-sharp precision, proving that despite the betrayal that had shaken her household, her mind remained as formidable as ever.
As the meeting concluded, the executives filed out quickly, eager to escape her searing presence. Julian remained behind, closing the doors securely.

"That should quiet the board for at least a quarter," Julian noted.
"For good, if we play our cards right," Eleanor replied, standing up. "Now, let us visit our guest in the holding wing. It is time for a final conversation."
