Chapter 6 - The Panther Awakens

The next morning, the financial markets opened to an absolute bloodbath. Vanguard Group stock plummeted by thirty-two percent within the first twenty minutes of trading as emergency news bulletins flashed across every major network screen in America. Headline banners screamed of an ongoing federal investigation into massive corporate fraud, asset concealment, and pension fund embezzlement totaling over forty million dollars. Julian sat inside the glass-walled conference room of his downtown headquarters, staring blankly at the plunging stock tickers on his wall-mounted monitors while his legal team argued frantically around him.

His phone had not stopped ringing for three hours. Investors were pulling out capital by the billions, threatening immediate lawsuits that could vaporize what remained of his personal fortune. Chloe sat in the corner of the room, white-faced and trembling, scrolling furiously through social media feeds where their luxurious lifestyle was being dissected and mocked by the public.

"Find her," Julian roared, slamming his fist onto the polished mahogany table so hard that the crystal water pitcher rattled. "Find Elena right now and bring her to me, or I swear I'll ruin every single one of you!"

Meanwhile, three miles away, Elena sat in a sleek, high-end private office overlooking the financial district, sipping black coffee from a porcelain cup. Across the sleek glass desk sat Arthur Sterling, the senior partner of Sterling & Thorne, the most formidable corporate litigation firm in the country. Arthur had been her father's closest friend and ally before Julian's hostile corporate takeover had forced her family out of the company five years ago.

"Your father would be immensely proud of you, Elena," Arthur said, sliding a thick leather-bound folder across the desk toward her. "You executed that data transfer with surgical precision. The SEC has already issued a nationwide asset seizure warrant for Julian and all of his affiliated shell corporations."

Elena opened the folder, revealing the freshly minted corporate partnership papers bearing her maiden name at the top of the letterhead. "This is only the beginning, Arthur. Julian thinks he can hide behind his corporate lawyers, but I want every single asset he owns liquidated and returned to the employees he robbed."

Arthur nodded approvingly, adjusting his gold-rimmed glasses. "There is just one small complication. Julian has retained Victoria Vance, the most ruthless defense attorney in the state, to fight the asset seizure. And she has already filed an emergency injunction claiming you coerced him into signing the initial divorce documents under extreme emotional distress."

Elena's hand paused over the coffee cup. A cold, calculating light danced in her dark eyes as she realized Julian was attempting to flip the legal narrative to paint her as the criminal mastermind.

"Let her try," Elena whispered, leaning back in her leather chair with absolute resolve. "I have three more secret audio recordings she hasn't heard yet."
