Chapter 12: The Turning Point

The television screen glowed in the darkened cottage, casting an eerie blue light across Julian’s face as Elena continued her tearful televised plea. Isabelle stood a few feet away, her small hands clutching the woolen blanket tightly around her shoulders as she stared up at the monitor.
“Is that Mommy?” Isabelle whispered, her voice trembling slightly.
Julian immediately clicked the remote, plunging the room into darkness save for the warm amber glow of the fireplace. He walked over and knelt down beside his daughter, taking her small, bandaged hands gently in his own.
“Yes, sweetheart, that was your mother,” Julian said, keeping his tone calm and reassuring. “She is telling a very big story to the whole world. But I want you to remember something very important. Everything she is saying on that screen is a lie designed to trick people. You and I know the truth. And very soon, everyone else is going to know it too.”
Isabelle looked up into his eyes, searching for any sign of doubt. Finding only absolute conviction, she offered a small, brave nod. “I believe you, Dad. I’m not going back there.”
“You will never have to go back there,” Julian promised, kissing the top of her head.
He stood up and picked up the burner phone. Detective Sarah Vance was still on the line, listening to the exchange in silence.
“Are you still there, Detective?” Julian asked coldly.
“I’m here, Mr. Vance,” Sarah replied professionally. “Have you made a decision? We have the arrest warrants signed for Elena and her financial associates. But we need you and Isabelle at the federal district office in downtown Seattle by ten o’clock tomorrow morning. If you miss that window, Elena’s legal team will secure an emergency writ of attachment, and the local sheriff will be forced to track you down.”
Julian looked out the dark window toward the crashing waves. Running was no longer an option. Hiding on these cliffs had served its purpose, but true safety could only be achieved by stepping directly into the lion’s den and destroying Elena’s empire once and for all.
“We’ll be there, Detective,” Julian said resolutely. “Prepare the indictment for the financial fraud, and have child protective services ready to record Isabelle’s formal testimony in a secure, neutral environment.”

“Understood, Mr. Vance. I’ll meet you at the secure entrance at precisely ten hundred hours. Don't be late.”
The line went dead. Julian exhaled slowly, feeling the immense gravity of the impending confrontation settle over his shoulders. He walked back to the kitchen, packed a small overnight bag for Isabelle, and prepared everything for their departure at first light. The war was coming to a head, and justice—long overdue—was finally within their grasp.
