Chapter 15: The Light That Remains

A year after the gala that had started it all, the annual town festival was held in the central park of the eastern district. Lanterns hung from the branches of the newly planted oak trees, casting a warm glow over hundreds of families gathered on the grass.

The ballroom suits and high-stakes corporate battles belonged to a distant past. Here, under the open sky, music played—not a rigid classical orchestra, but warm, acoustic melodies played by local musicians.

Victoria stood on the pavilion steps, watching Leo run across the grass with a group of children, his laughter ringing clear through the evening air. Nearby, Jax conversed quietly with Sarah, while Julian sat on a bench, patiently teaching another young child how the chess pieces moved across the board.

Victoria pulled out her phone—the same phone she had used to trigger the takeover a year ago. She swiped through her gallery until she found a photo taken earlier that afternoon: Leo standing proudly in front of the community center sign, flanked by Jax and Julian, all three smiling naturally under the afternoon sun.

She locked the screen and placed the phone into her coat pocket, letting out a long, quiet breath.

The darkness had cleared. The silence was no longer heavy with unspoken grief or hidden agendas. In its place was a quiet, enduring warmth—a testament that no matter how deep the fractures of the past, truth, redemption, and love could build something unbreakable from the ruins.
