Chapter 6

The fallout from the morning’s revelations hit the financial markets like a localized earthquake. By noon, financial news networks were flashing breaking headlines across the ticker tape: Vance Technologies Executive Board Freezes Assets Amid Corruption Probe; Founder Julian Vance Faces Criminal Inquiry.
Inside the sleek glass-walled conference room of Apex Global, CEO Jonathan Sterling sat at the head of the long walnut table, steepled his fingers, and stared hard at the digital dossiers displayed on the smartboard. Across from him sat Marcus Vance, looking exhausted yet resolute, flanked by corporate legal counsel. The multi-million-dollar acquisition deal that was supposed to cement Vance Technologies' market dominance was hanging by a precarious thread.
"Marcus, I have institutional investors breathing down my neck," Jonathan said, his tone clipped and professional. "We entered into an exclusivity agreement based on the premise that Vance Tech held clear, unencumbered title to its core algorithm suite. Your nephew’s unauthorized offshore restructuring has thrown our legal department into complete chaos. Why should we proceed with this acquisition when your primary technical asset is currently the subject of an independent equity freeze?"
Marcus sighed, leaning forward and resting his forearms on the table. "Because the intellectual property in question—the Aegis security framework—was solely designed and registered under a secondary proprietary patent owned by Clara Hayes, not Julian Vance. Julian attempted to bypass her ownership rights through fraudulent corporate filings. We have already initiated legal remediation to transfer primary development oversight directly to Miss Hayes."
Jonathan raised an eyebrow, genuine surprise flickering across his face. "Miss Hayes? The former chief compliance officer who filed the emergency injunction this morning? Are you telling me she controls the foundational architecture of the software we intended to acquire?"

"Precisely," Marcus affirmed. "And my board is prepared to ratify a direct restructuring agreement with Miss Hayes, cutting Julian out of the equity equation entirely. If Apex wishes to proceed with the acquisition, the new partnership will be negotiated directly with her as primary stakeholder and technical director."
A heavy silence settled over the conference room as Jonathan weighed the strategic implications. Julian’s reckless greed had nearly sabotaged a golden enterprise, but Clara’s swift, surgical intervention had preserved its underlying value. Jonathan stood up, buttoning his suit jacket. "Arrange a meeting between my executive team and Miss Hayes for tomorrow morning at nine. If her terms align with our operational timeline, we restructure the acquisition under her leadership. As for Julian Vance, he is entirely persona non grata."
