Chapter 12 - Breach of the Estate

Heavy combat boots thundered up the grand staircase as federal agents in tactical gear poured into the opulent hallway, their assault rifles raised and laser sights painting the walls in eerie green dots.
“Federal agents! Nobody move! Drop your weapons!” a loud, amplified voice commanded from the top of the stairs, echoing off the high ceiling.
Julian stood frozen, the heavy revolver still clutched in his right hand. He looked at the line of tactical officers aiming directly at his chest, then glanced down at Dr. Hayes, who was frantically working to deliver the baby on the Persian rug. With a slow, deliberate motion, Julian dropped the gun to the marble floor, letting it slide across the glittering shards of the broken chandelier until it stopped at the boots of the lead agent.
“I’m unarmed,” Julian said calmly, raising his hands slowly above his head as two agents rushed forward, shoving him against the mahogany wall and snapping heavy steel handcuffs onto his wrists with a sharp click.
Marcus staggered back against the console table, holding his injured arm while an agent checked his credentials and secured him with zip-ties, watching as Julian was hauled away toward the elevator.
“Don't touch her!” Eleanor screamed over the commotion, throwing her body over Clara to shield her from the flashing lights and commotion as Dr. Hayes delivered a sharp, echoing slap of a newborn baby’s cry that pierced the noisy hallway.
The frantic, healthy wail of a newborn baby filled the air, cutting through the chaos of the federal raid like a beacon of absolute truth.
Dr. Hayes carefully wrapped the tiny infant in a sterile blue blanket, lifting the baby up for Eleanor and Clara to see.
“It’s a boy,” Dr. Hayes announced, his professional demeanor finally softening into something resembling genuine human relief. “He’s breathing on his own. Both mother and child are stable, considering the circumstances.”
Clara burst into tears, her face collapsing in exhaustion as she reached out with trembling, bruised hands to take her newborn son into her arms. She pulled the tiny bundle against her chest, kissing his forehead repeatedly while sobbing tears of pure joy and relief.
“My baby... my sweet baby,” Clara whispered, burying her face in the blanket as Eleanor gently stroked her hair, a bittersweet smile breaking through her own tear-stained makeup.
The lead federal agent stepped forward, lowering his rifle as he looked down at the newborn in the maid’s arms, then cast a stern glance toward Eleanor.
“Mrs. Vance?” the agent asked formally, flashing his badge. “I am Agent Miller. We have a federal warrant to search this estate, and we need your immediate cooperation to unlock the main server room downstairs.”
Eleanor stood up slowly from the dusty floor, smoothing down the torn silk of her elegant red dress and lifting her chin with regal dignity. She reached up, unclasped the dazzling diamond necklace from her throat, and dropped it heavily into the agent’s open palm.

“You won't need a key for the server room, Agent Miller,” Eleanor said coldly, her eyes fixed on the elevator where her husband had just disappeared. “My husband left the backdoor password encrypted in the flash drive hidden inside Clara’s uniform collar. Let’s go open it.”
