Chapter 10: Confronting the Board

The executive boardroom of Sterling Enterprises was usually a place of polite handshakes, muted disagreements, and quiet consensus. Today, the atmosphere was suffocatingly tense. The mahogany conference table seated twelve senior executives and board members, all dressed in immaculate business attire. At the head of the table sat Arthur Sterling, his posture rigid and authoritative. Standing quietly behind his right shoulder was Clara, holding a sleek leather folio containing the gathered evidence.

""Arthur, this emergency meeting was called on very short notice,"" muttered Richard Vance, the senior managing director and Jonathan's distant cousin. ""Some of us have international calls scheduled. If this is about Victoria's unfortunate legal troubles, the board has already drafted a public statement distancing the company from her personal actions.""

""This meeting is not about Victoria's personal conduct, Richard,"" Arthur said, his voice cutting cleanly through the murmur of the room. He did not raise his voice, yet every person at the table fell instantly silent. ""It is about systemic financial corruption operating within this very building under the guise of corporate restructuring.""

Richard shifted uneasily in his leather chair, exchanging a quick glance with the CFO seated next to him. ""Arthur, surely you don't suggest—""

""I am not suggesting anything, Richard. I am stating facts,"" Arthur interrupted. He signaled to Clara, who stepped forward and placed a thick dossier in front of each board member. ""Inside those folders, you will find complete forensic documentation of diverted foundation funds, forged grant authorizations, and offshore shell corporations used to siphon capital away from our community initiatives.""

Murmurs erupted around the table. Several board members flipped open the dossiers, their faces turning pale as they scanned the undeniable paper trail.

""This... this is an internal matter that should have been handled discreetly,"" the CFO stammered, his hands shaking slightly as he held the financial printouts. ""Involving outside investigators will trigger a public audit, tank our stock value, and destroy investor confidence.""

""Let it tank,"" Arthur said calmly, leaning forward with his elbows on the table. ""If our stock value depends on covering up embezzlement and attempted poisoning, then this enterprise deserves to fall. For too long, we prioritized profit margins over basic human decency and ethical governance.""

Richard Vance slammed his hand onto the table, standing up to project authority. ""You can't just upend decades of operational precedent because of a family dispute! You're letting your emotions cloud your judgment. We demand a formal vote on your leadership status if you persist with this reckless crusade.""

Before Arthur could reply, Clara stepped forward, placing her tablet on the conference table and connecting it to the main wall display. The screen flashed instantly with an encrypted video file and a series of audio logs.

""Before you call for a leadership vote, Mr. Vance,"" Clara said smoothly, her voice calm and authoritative, ""you might want to review the recording from the server backup dated three weeks ago—specifically the conversation between Victoria Sterling and the individual who authorized the offshore routing of Grant 409.""
