Chapter 10

The eighth-floor boardroom of the Pacific Holdings tower smelled of fresh paper, printer toner, and quiet tension. The floor-to-ceiling windows offered a sweeping, panoramic view of the harbor, where cargo ships moved slowly through the slate-grey morning water. Around the polished mahogany table sat seven members of the executive board, their expressions a mix of lingering shock and cautious relief.
When the double doors opened, Elena walked in first, wearing a tailored navy blue blazer and white silk blouse. Her posture was commanding, her stride measured and precise. Julian followed close behind, carrying a leather briefcase containing the certified forensic audit and the federal court orders freezing the disputed trust accounts.
Arthur was not at the table. His empty leather chair sat at the head of the room, flanked by untouched files and a cold ceramic coffee mug bearing his initials.
Mr. Henderson, the senior independent board director, cleared his throat and adjusted his spectacles as Elena took her seat at the center of the table. "Elena... it is nothing short of a miracle to see you here. When the authorities briefed us on the motor vehicle incident in Oregon three weeks ago, we were under the impression—"
"I know what you were led to believe, David," Elena interrupted smoothly, her voice cutting through the murmurs in the room. She gestured to Julian, who opened his briefcase and began distributing copies of the forensic report to each board member. "Arthur manufactured an administrative narrative to expedite a corporate restructuring while I was attending a confidential stakeholder review in Vancouver. The death certificate filed under my name utilized a misidentified vehicle and altered coroner records."
Silence descended upon the room as the directors began turning the pages, their eyes widening as they absorbed the detailed breakdown of the forged asset transfers, the unauthorized offshore accounts, and the falsified probate filings.
"The federal court has issued an emergency injunction freezing all accounts controlled by Arthur’s secondary shell corporation," Julian added, his voice steady and authoritative. "Furthermore, the compliance audit confirms that all voting shares previously assigned to his emergency trust revert immediately to Elena’s primary holding estate."

Henderson looked up from the documents, shaking his head slowly as the full gravity of the betrayal sank in. "Good grief. He was liquidating the core assets while the ink on the wedding invitations was still wet."
"He was," Elena said calmly, locking eyes with every member of the board around the table. "And effective immediately, his tenure as chief operating officer is terminated for gross misconduct and corporate fraud. Let’s move on to the Q3 operational review."
